How long does the hiring process usually take?

The answer is that it depends.  Normally, it should take around 90 days to complete.  Candidates with extensive work histories, or have moved a lot, can cause the process to take a bit longer.

Do we pay candidates to attend the academy?

Currently, our Police Cadet program will pay you to attend the academy.  Our Cadets usually start in our jail and handle people that are taken into custody.  Once the prisoners are processed, Cadets will transport them to the Fresno County Jail for booking.

Cadets may be selected to attend the academy.  It is not guaranteed that a Cadet will get a chance to attend the academy while sponsored with the department.

What can I do to prepare for this position?

Most of the positions offer a ride along program.  Come into the lobby of the department and fill out a form.  The ride along coordinator will contact you to schedule a date and time.  Take the time to see what the job is first-hand.  Ask questions.

The department will be offering interview preparation classes in the near future.  Check the EVENTS tab on the home page for dates and times.  These classes will be designed to help you through the interview process.
